I plan to fulfill my life long dream to own a Harley Davidson. Which model though?

Monday, December 28th, 2009

I’ve always dreamed of a Springer but hear they are maintenance issues. My second choice is a Heritage Classic but the dealerships always push me toward a Road King because of my size and the claim that it is a better ride. Not sure if I’m getting pushed that way because of the higher costs. Can anyone share their experience with both models?

Hump day motorcycle joke?

Sunday, October 25th, 2009

The inventor of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Arthur Davidson , died and went to heaven…..

At the gates, St. Peter told Arthur. ‘Since you’ve been such a good man and your motorcycles have changed the world, your reward is, you can hang out with anyone you want to in heaven.’

Arthur thought about it for a minute and then said,

‘I want to hang out with God.’

St. Peter took Arthur to the Throne Room, and introduced him to God.

God recognized Arthur and commented, ‘Okay, so you were the one who invented the Harley-Davidson motorcycle? ‘

Arthur said, ‘Yes, that’s me…’

God commented: ‘Well, what’s the big deal in inventing something that’s pretty unstable, makes noise and pollution and can’t run without a road?’

Arthur was a bit embarrassed, but finally spoke, ‘Excuse me, but aren’t you the inventor of woman?’

God said, ‘Ah, yes.’

‘Well,’ said Arthur, professional to professional, you have some major design flaws in your invention!

1. There’s too much inconsistency in the front-end suspension

2. It chatters constantly at high speeds

3. Most rear ends are too soft and wobble about too much.

4. The intake is placed way too close to the exhaust .

5. The maintenance costs are outrageous!!!

‘Hmmmmm, you may have some good points there,’ replied God, ‘hold on.’

God went to his Celestial supercomputer, typed in a few words and waited for the results.

The computer printed out a slip of paper and God read it.

‘Well, it may be true that my invention is flawed,’ God said to Arthur, ‘but according to these numbers, more men are riding my invention than yours’.

Would you trade a 2002 TL1000R w/ 9, 600 miles + $500 for a 2001 Harley Davidson Sportster 1200C w/ 5K miles?

I test drove the guys Harley Davidson Sportster 1200C and was shocked how much it vibrated! My TL1000R is Super Smooth of a ride compared to the 1200C Sportster. Not to mention double the horsepower. Only reason I’m considering it is because I’m bored and want a new toy. I hear HD require lots of maintenance compared to my TL. Thanks everyone.
I have a wife and two kids. I was thinking about the city cruising because one day highway racing will catchup to me. This bike is crazy fast (Which I love!) I’m 31 thinking I should slow it down a little. Thanks!
Geez man, there is always one A$$hole everytime I ask a question. The reason I brought up my family is that when I hop on a crotch rocket I have more of a tendancy to twist that throttle and before I know it I’m doing 130+; and that isn’t good since I’m the bread winner, father, husband!. The Sportster 1200 will take half a day to reach 100mph. Therefore I’d be less likely to be a speed demon or at least that is what I’m thinking. By the time I reach 70 I have to slow down because a red light or some sh!t. At first I wasn’t thrilled with the vibration; but when I got home I wanted to ride it again and couldn’t stop thinking about it. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who gets bored with their toys and wants something new. Main reason I was asking was to try and reach some people who had experience with Harley’s & crotch rockets.. forget it; I hate explaining myself because someone who just hopped off his sister learned how to use the internet; You’re a tool
Everyone else who answered; Thanks! I truely appreciate your opinions! Even Polar bear had 1 good point.

Are You A Motorcycle Rider/Owner? Do You Recommend Honda, Harley, or Yamaha?

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

I have been researching possibly buying a used/pre-owned motorcycle. I love Harley Davidsons like the Sportster and the 1200 series, but man are they expensive and I heard very high maintenance. I have heard that Hondas and Yamahas in the higher powered models are easier to maintain and cheaper to service. What is your opinion on owning a bike and what is your preference. Still, there is nothing like that Harley sound when it’s cranked up on the freeway. Thanks
